Somme and Ypres battlefields, 21/04/2006 - 23/04/2006.

Part of a field at the Somme. It's so flat and empty, I can hardly believe that troops were ordered to walk into machine gun fire in order to capture this land. The senseless waste of human life is made even more stark by the obvious military insignificance of the battlefield.
